I was greatly saddened today when I received a letter from Nostalgia
Ventures saying that they have ceased publishing the Doc Savage
"Doubles" with the "Doc Savage #23" issue. It was great while it
lasted. I have all of the original Bantam reprints and the new
stories, but I loved the commentaries and the original artwork in the
Nostalgia Ventures publications. They said they have enough inventory
to fill current orders. If you want to fill out your collection now
would be the time to do so.

Bummed Out,
Paul

Well darn.

I was afraid of that after it seemed there wasn't a Doc in "Previews" a month
or two ago. I've got all theirs, and am looking forward to reading the
restored texts and missing chapters. Too bad there won't be any more.

Hello,

I just emailed Mr. Tollins about this as I have a year long
subscription to Doc and it continues through issue #25. If its true
that issue #23 is the last one, then I'd like to know whether I'm
getting a refund or what choices I have.

This is really a shame. Even though I have a complete set of the
Bantam editions, I was enjoying this version of the Super-Sagas.

I wonder if the Shadow reprints are also being suspended.

Thanks for the info.

Best,

Henry Lopez

Hello,

This good news just released by Will Murray:

<<Reprint announcementI'm authorized to release this statement re: Doc
Savage
reprints:

Anthony Tollin's Sanctum Books did not cancel publication of its pulp
reprints
after Doc Savage #23 and The Shadow #24. Instead, Nostalgia Ventures
declined to
participate in Tony's renewed contract that began January 1, 2009 (and
is aware
that the books will be continuing under the Sanctum Books imprint).
Sanctum is
also launching its quarterly series of The Avenger in February
followed by The
Whisperer in April.

In fact, Doc Savage #24 and The Shadow #25 were bound last week, and
I'll be
appearing with Tony and these newest books at Sanctum's booth at the
New York
Comic-con from February 6-8.

Tony informs me that Doc Savage #25 will be going to the printer this
weekend,
while the digital files for The Shadow #26 will be sent to the printer
before he
leaves for New York.>>

So Doc reprints will continue.

Hurray!!!

Awesome! I haven't been able to pick up all of the Doc Savage and
Shadow reprints yet, but I have loved reading what I've picked up so
far.

I can't wait for the Avenger and Whisperer reprints -- I've been
wanting to read their stories for a long while now.

It's great news, but if that's the case, where will these be
available? I can't find a retail outlet for Sanctum Books.

Also, if there are Avenger fans among the Doc Savage faithful,
Moonstone Books at http://www(dot)moonstonebooks(dot)com(slash)avenger(dot)asp
has put out a book (in hard and soft-cover) of ALL NEW Avenger
stories!

I carry a wide variety of pulp-related publications including all of
the Sanctum Productions books. Generally, I offer a 10 percent
discount on most of the books that I sell. If you would like a copy of
my catalog, please send an email to ***@enter.net. Thanks.

This might explain the delay in getting Doc 23 and Shadow 24 out.
Nostalgia Ventures seemed more interested in the radio stuff anyway.
I presume that Nostaligia town, which is pretty much the outlet for
Nostaligia ventures, will continue to carry the books.
Hopefully now that this is settled, Tollin can find new distriubtuion for
his books, and get them back onto the shelfs in Barnes and Nobel and
Borders.

I've always had a hard time finding the Doc Savage and Shadow reprints
in my local Barnes & Nobles for some reason. Sure I could have the
reprints special ordered but by the time I do that I might as well
order them online.

The lone Borders store has proved the opposite, it carries a good
selection of both The Shadow and Doc Savage regularly -- I generally
prefer going to Barnes & Nobel because of the Members club discount,
but the reprints one of the few things that keep me coming back to
Borders. I've not been a much of a Border's fan ever since they
killed the WaldenBooks' Walden discount card and closed the WB's
nearest me [it was even a nationwide top 10 WBs, it should never have
been on the chopping block].

If there is a Half Price bookstore near you (they are primarily in the
Midwest), you can find lots of them for $5.98.
