Brendan Fraser looks like the character on the covers of the old
pulps. As long as the story is strong and not goofy or too much
comedy, he could pull it off. See stills from the Mummy movies.

I'm sure there's others that might fill the bill but so far, this guy
would work for me. Instead of the hollering character he plays in the
Mummies, a reserved, strong, commanding presence would work from BF.
Just purchased the DS movie dvd on ebay last night. Way too hokey,
but , hey, it's Doc Savage.

Good shots, but Brendan Fraser is 40 already, maybe 42 by the time we see the
movie and pushing 45 in time for the first sequel.

Like Arnie, I think the ship has sailed for this actor in a halfway believable
action adventure movie.

Besides, I can't think of any role that he played straight. I think you'd end up
with a situation like Bill Murray in "The Razor's Edge" or Adam Sandler in
"Punch-Drunk Love". Audiences have certain expectations from big stars and the
box-office would suck when Brendan Fraser fans let everyone know that Doc Savage
is nothing like the Mummy movies.

There's a Brendan Fraser clone making bad SciFi channel movies.

Unlike Murray and Sandler, Fraser can act. He's done more serious
stuff than the Mummy(s).

His age could be a factor but he's a young looking guy, decent shape
and tall. How old was Doc anyway? Ron Ely looked at least 45 when he
was playing the part...and when it wasn't too campy, he was Doc.
I guess we'll see and have to hope for the best. This could be really
cool if Hollywood doesn't stink it up.

Can't speak to this since I haven't seen "Punch-Drunk Love" or much of anything
with Sandler. Bill Murray's gotten a lot of good press for "Broken Flowers" &
"Lost in Translation" but again, I haven't seen them.

I've only seen him in comedies, action adventures (with a lot of comedy), and
cameos. Still, ask any man on the street and IF they know his name, they'll know
him for Mummies, Looney Tunes BIA, Dudley Do-Right and George of the Jungle.

Point is, what are audiences going to expect from him...

He went from School Ties which was serious, to Encino Man and
established a name with both and it didn't affect what fans thought of
him either way. He's done more comedy but none his roles took away
from whatever present role was. A household name like he has would
bring a younger generation into the role and bring Doc Savage back to
a household name. That's just my thoughts. I'm not his agent.
Do you have any ideas? The blonde dude from Fast & the Furious comes
to mind but seems too young to me, but in the long run could work
sequels. I can't think of anybody else offhand.

I was posting over on Flearun about this guy -- an actor named Conan

Looks aren't all of what the girls were falling for in Doc, it's the
power, both physical, attitude, presence and security.
Here's a youtube of him. I emailed him and let him know of the
movie...if it's really him.
His acting may need work, but as I watched this...you are right, he's
got that Bama look...maybe too tall but it could work.

I suppose, if we want the film to be a "B" movie, this guy would be
fine. But can he lose the Aussie accent? Can he act? The lines spoken
in the YouTube viddy were in some other language. Still didn't look
like much of an actor.

As for Frasier, he's a pretty good actor but I can't see him as the
Savage type. We might as well go with Matt Keeslar for that matter.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0444832/

I'm thinking someone with some intelligence. Sure he has to look the
part but Doc was a genius, a doctor, an authority in SOOO many fields.

I have a bad feeling they are going to miscast this part. And that
would make it just as bad as Pal's version. I'd hate to see that.

True about the intelligence but that would be up to the writers more
than the actor.

Has anyone seen Fraser's serious work? He comes across very
intelligence where he needs to and very stupid when asked. It's up to
the writers and directors. Keeslar looks too "soap opera" but he
could work, too, I guess.

Maybe they'll announce soon. Any links to the buzz of the movie and
even the movie website?

I've never seen the show but I watched a few clips. He could work. I
especially like the fact that on that show, he's wearing an outfit
close to what Richard Henry "Dick" Benson, "The Avenger" wore on the
covers of those books.

Is this show still on? I'm starting to watch it if it is.

I thought he might be good also, but he's 50 this year. Also thought
Adam Baldwin might be good, but he's around 45-46. If it's going to be
a one shot movie,OK...but if the powers that be are thinking franchise
they'll probably want to go younger

New, young unknown with talent.

Don't look at body builders. Find your "Doc in the rough" and build him up for
the movie. They really beefed up those guys for "The 300" (never saw the movie
so i can only hope that they weren't wearing plastic body-suits).

IMDb says Keeslar is 6'2". It also says Kevin Sorbo is 6'3" but
Keeslar sure looked at least the same height if not a tad taller in
the episode they were in together.

Either way, when it comes to reasonably known actors as Doc I think
Keeslar could do a bang up job.
