I've finished the first third of the book.
Just an absolutely great prologue and first couple of chapters, establishing
DOc was out of town when Kong fell, his relationship (!) to the beast, and
solving the problem of the removal of the corpse. Then a hundred pages of
DOC and his father on a slow boat (actually, fast schooner) to Skull Island.
I understand Murray has to pad out the wordcount this way -- there is no
market at the $24.95 price-point for a 60,000 word novel. And I've grown to
appreciate his style in these sections -- clearly, he has done more serious
thinking about WWDSD? (What Would Doc Savage Do?) than anyone ever has.

I love having new Docs. Especially well written Docs and by someone who
cares. I still think that the books should contain multiple stories of pulp
length rather than one extended novel. That would really be the Doc that we
all know and love.
