In his column this week (you can find it on the last page of this
week's comics),
Dan Didio announced that DC will be publishing new Doc Savage &
Avenger comics. There were no writers/artists announced. I just hope
he gets people who understand the characters and the genre.

Having someone who can draw would help too. DC and Marvel (and various
independents) have never put a really sterling artist on anything but the covers
of the Doc comics. The Marvel B&W comics were the closest we got to real Doc
Savage adventures - but Tony DeZuniga didn't really have much in the way of
artistic flair.

Frank Cho would be great http://www.libertymeadows.com/

Or Dave Stevens (god rest his soul)

Suggestions? (Don't say Gene Colon)

And let's not forget the fiasco that was DC's last attempt at Doc =
modernizing, making Johnny a traitor (or was it Long Tom - that's how
memorable they were). Those spurred a battle between the purist in me and
the completist in me. I think I ended up with them, but only at a huge
discount through a big back-issue sale.

I've taken the purist approach, and simply assume that DOC comic books
have never existed.

I'd like to see Alex Ross as the artist.

Hmm. How about Matt Groening?

Can't you just see Pat Savage drawn with Marge Simpson's hairdo? Doc with
his Bama skullcap and Homer Simpson's face?

Sorry to scar you like that. I suspect those images will be tough to get
over.

Here's a suggestion in all seriousness: I haven't read comics in probably
15 years, but if he's still around and working Jerry Ordway might do a fine
job.

Heh heh. I _knew_ Jack Kirby was too old a suggestion, but then I
thought of somebody like George Perez and realize I know no current
artist by name.

Jae Lee would also be a good choice.

How about Dan Fraga? He's a friend of mine.
