DLed it and watched it last night for the first time in 20 years or so.
Gawd it's even worse than I remembered. There was just enough there to make
you realize that George Pal and/or the writer had at least read some Doc, as
in "Do a Barney Oldfield" or having Doc stand on the running board of the
Cord, but I think that made it even worse than if they had just abandoned
all the mythos and started from scratch. Our Doc wouldn't have his name on
everything from his snowmobile to his airplane, and that Fortress of
Solitude was barely bigger than my bathroom. The first time I tried to play
it last night it was in German, but I eventually figured out the problem and
switched to the English audio track. I'm thinking I may have been better
off if I had just left it in German . . .

He may not have had his name on everything, but in the early books every
type of craft he owned was painted bronze. Distinctive enough to cause him
enough trouble to finally quit doing it.

Didn't he have custom license plates too?

DOC SAVAGE! DOC SAVAGE!"

Hey, that's what we THOUGHT the words were,
first time we saw the movie in the theater . . .

I was annoyed with them living in a giant gargoyle instead of the Empire
State Building; I wonder if the ESB was charging to use it's likeness
back then?

And Pamela Hensley would have made a *great* princess, in appropriately
skimpy outfits.

I did actualy make it through the DVD of DOC with the younger
grandsons (ages 7 and 5), though I did sleep all the way from the
capital of Hidalgo tothe Valley of the Vanished, and that helped a
lot.

In the books, DOC is often described as having special low-number
licennse plates that mark him as a VIP.

When you recall what the BUCK ROGERS folks did with PamelaHensley, you
realize how awful the costume designer was for DOC (except for the to-
die-for bronze tuxedo)

That was a poorly scaled version of the eagles on the Chrysler Building.

You can see 5 of them here...

...just before the building tapers in a bit.

Here's a close-up

And this shows the true scale...
