It's been 35+ years since I read this one, but I still remember being creeped
out when Doc gets a message with fingerprints from a couple of the Five and
realizes the prints were taken from dead men.

Yes, I read this one about 5 years ago and it's one of my favourites.
This is rather strange, in that it's a Willian Bogart, and he also wrote _The Magic Forest_, which is the least favourite Doc I can recall reading.
