I am so excited by DC Comics' new feature "First Wave". A six issue
mini-series which prominently features our own Doc Savage along with
Batman, the Spirit, the Avenger and others.

The First issue is very Doc-centric and features material in Doc #1
like you've not seen it before. You'll be interested in the
visualization of Monk, Ham, Renny, Long Tom, and Johnny! From 30
years of looking at Monk on the back of the Bantam reprints, and a few
years of looking at the original pulps, Monk in this one looks more
like a hood than the Monk I have grown to know and love. I was fine
with the other characterizations.

There was a one-shot featuring Doc Savage and Batman that came out
last
month, you probably can still find it at your local comics store.

Enjoy!

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I only figured out who was Long Tom by
a process of elimination since no one addressed him. He wasn't pale
nor had light colored hair. Monk was too tall. And everyone in comics
still uses the James Bama visualization of Doc. No one goes back to
the pulps and reads how these characters should look.

I'll keep reading but I don't like visualizations at all.

Okay, I'll give you that! I thought Long Tom wasn't tall enough,
skinny enough or pale enough... and, you're right, Monk was too
tall... but I'm still thrilled to see them back in "new" stories.
Having looked at the "mighty five" in the back of the bantam editions
for over 30 years, it's hard to imagine them any other way... though
the Bama illustrations were nothing like the pulp illustrations.
Speaking of shockers, how'd you like they way they addressed Johnny's
eye!?
