From January/ FEB 1948, a Bantam omnibus selection, and tollin #31..
You've heard of this one -- it's the one where Pat is the first person
narrator.
A man wanders into her salon acting weird. She goes to throw him out,
and discovers an ice pick in his back. so now she's got herself her
own adventure. Doc gets involved, and Monk is there as Pat's enabler
-- turns out he's been funneling her DOC's old gadgets. She uses some
gadgets along the way.
The first two chapters start out well -- good narrative. Then we get
lots of Pat listening to other people talk, and it's all downhill from
there.
Really pretty bad. Shows how anxious they were editorially to
actually go with this, but a BIG miss -- hard to see anyone reading
this and thinking, "Wow, this DOC SAVAGE MAGAZINE is really
something! I must return to my newsdealer in bi-months for the next
exciting issue!"
