Finally, after all these years, I get to read the origin of Habeas
Corpus!
And it's pretty much:
"Hey, where'd ya get the pig?"
"Found him"
Geez, what a letdown! :)
Standard Doc adventure. Bad guys have Doc running around New York,
there's a mysterious beautiful girl and a mystery weapon, they chase the
bad guys to Arabia and all use the Helldiver to get to the Phantom City
where they help the inhabitants defeat the local savages. Monk and Ham
fight over the girl, but she only has eyes for Doc, and he only has eyes
for 2 hours of exercise a day. Bad guys all die horribly after ignoring
Doc's warnings, which in this case was too bad, 'cause I was wondering
what he was going to DO with 30 bad guys in Arabia ... kidnap 'em all
back to the Crime College? The most bizarre element are the rafts ...
the locals make boats out of a special species of salt water drinking
camel, by making a small incision, emptying out the meat and bones,
sewing the incision up tight again, having somehow inflated them ...
nothing is ever said about CURING the pelts in any way. So they have
these inflatable camel shaped boats, that probably smell pretty bad, and
are almost impossible to steer (I bet!). The bad guys were after the
huge deposits ... tons and tons of it ... of platinum that's just laying
around THE PHANTOM CITY, which turns out to be lead. I wonder if the
Phantom Citites just carved huge doors out of solid hunks of the stuff
or are melting it down or what. Oh, and everybody has white hair
because of the chemicals in the drinking water that bleach you stark
white if you bathe in it ... it's really hard to imagine that any of
this is non toxic. :)

"He'll succumb to all who find
DOC SAVAGE! DOC SAVAGE!"
Hey, that's what we THOUGHT the words were,
first time we saw the movie in the theater . . .
