Is it all over? Have newsgroups gone the way of the passenger pigeon,
England, and MySpace?

I've been here at least once a week for fifteen years now, and I doubt
there have been a hundred posts in the last one -- many of them being
trolls.

Is everything Facebook now?

Mostly online (web) newsgroups I think.

Yep, there's a lot of activity in some of those groups. I've put together a
links page featuring the level of activity in each group. Most of those that
Mr. Allard listed are pretty active.

The Yahoo groups are free. You just need a Yahoo account, which is easy to
set up. I created one just for that purpose. You can read the groups online
at the Yahoo page, or have each post emailed to you, or have a digest
emailed.

To keep spammers out, most of the groups require you to ask to join. I
haven't heard of anyone being denied (though sometimes folks are banned
because of bad behavior or spamming).

They are well worth the effort.

I might add that it's a shame this group and the alt.pulp group have dried
up the way they have. They used to be bustling forums for pulp fans.

Well, when ISP's no longer provide access a lot of folks didn't realize they
could reach things through Aioe, Eternal September, and other sources. And
for some the mailing lists and forum systems with their ability to keep the
trolls outside of the gate is a strong enticement to abandon Usenet.

My group of ESPers and psis ( http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/telepaths_empaths_scanners/?yguid=333046154
)
never had a very large following-- cuz there was never many of us to
begin with-- but it has survived for nine yeaars, with me only
occasionally thinking about pulling the plug. I don't think it would
have much future on Facebook....

My ISP does not provide Usenet access, but I can get to this group
through Google Groups. I just don't check it very often.

Does Doc Savage have a presence on Facebook?
I think all of use should move to www.Librarything.com and start a
pulp group there. Although there may be one. I was the first person to
add The Infernal Buddha to the Librarything database.

Thank you for introducing me to Librarything. I have signed up and added two books as a token gesture.

I can, I fear, see this site taking up a lot of resource...
